During October-November 2019, COERR Mae Sarieng and COERR Mae Sot carried out several activities to reduce garbage, e.g. to exchange garbage for eggs; to launch waste management campaign and to recycle waste materials into other materials, etc.
On October 12, 2019 COERR Mae Sarieng organized “DIY- recycling used plastic bottles” training for 107 children and youth, of 66 female and 41 male, in Ban Mae Lama Luang Shelter and 68 children and youth, 44 female and 24 male, in Ban Mae La Oon Shelter. The training started with a teaching about waste management, problems and impact of too much garbage in the community. To reduce use of plastic and to recycle plastic materials into some products is one solution.
After the training, participants proudly took their DIY products home with joy and fun as the program also wish youth to continue practice skills that might an income generation in the future.
COERR Mae Sot continued the program of garbage for eggs every Monday and Friday in Mae La Temporary Shelter. Each kilogram of garbage can exchange for 2 eggs in return. This program has been much welcome by all community members, especially children and youth. In October, 110 kilograms of trash were received and in November, 120 kilograms were received by the program.
"PLACING RUBBISH INTO THE BIN" Campaign was organized by COERR Mae Sot at Mae La Temporary Shelter on November 7, 2019. There were 40 young participants of which 12 were female and 18 were male. The campaign had been aimed to draw public attention to realize how important it is to apply 3R: Reduce; Reuse and Recycle in daily life practice as to save our natural resources. It is significant to make community understand that cleanliness can keep them healthy and what they could help was to simply place rubbish in the bins provided.
